Red Prince Apples

Red Prince Apples 01

Granny Smith, Golden & Red Delicious and Macintosh are the among the most popular apples you’d find at the grocery store today but we’re here to talk about a hidden gem of an apple that most of you aren’t familiar with and that’s the Red Prince Apple.

These red and delicious apples are considered a perfect hybrid mix of the Jonathan and Golden Delicious variety but we see it as a work of art.  The generous combination of rich colour, sweetness, juiciness is overwhelmingly refreshing and every bite you take is as crisp as the next.  These characteristics make Red Prince apples ideal for fresh salads, baking, smoothies and most importantly healthy snacks between meals.

The Red Prince apple has come a long way from their roots (no pun intended) near German/Holland border to find its new home on an orchard farm in Thornbury Ontario near Collingwood and Owen Sound.  This makes Red Prince apples readily available to local Ontarians at their local grocers and most importantly fresh as can be but the best part is that these apples are available during the winter months making them accessible all your round!

Our staff at YummyLocal just received an etiquette pack from Red Prince and we couldn’t get enough of them.  ”Best apple I’ve tasted, so juicy and crisp” are just some of gleaming comments from our team making Red Prince our favourite apple!

Another treat we had the pleasure of sampling were the Red Prince “Royal Energy Bars” which are made from all natural ingredients packed with fiber, protein, and essential fatty acids.  These energy bars are nut free made from Red Prince Apples, rolled oats, flaked coconut, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, puffed rice, medjool dates, and sun flower butter.  The consistency of the energy bars are more moist than traditional granola type bars you find at the grocery store but the amount of flavor from a Royal Energy Bar is fantastic that draws no comparison.  These great tasting energy bars unfortunately have a much shorter life shelf life than other energy bars because they’re so fresh and because they contain no added preservatives.  Royal Energy Bars are a great natural snack for the kids and perfect for your pre or post workout routines.

Visit the Red Prince website for more information including a store locator to find the closest retailer (Loblaws, Longo’s, Sobey’s) near you!
