Grilled Asparagus

The best months for asparagus are March through till August.  When buying asparagus make sure you look for the ones with bright green stalks.  The stalks should be firm and the tips should be purplish and tightly closed.   when you get home wash and wrap the asparagus in a damp paper cloth and store in a plastic container in the fridge to keep them fresh and crisp.

Grilled asparagus is awesome and an easy way to add some dietary fibre, vitamin A,B,C to your meal.  Although the best way to take advantage of all these nutrients is to boil/steam the asparagus, grilling adds a bit more taste.

1 lb fresh asparagus
5 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt

1.  Trim off the bottoms of the asparagus by bending the asparagus until the lower portion of the spears  snap off at the natural point of tenderness.
2.  Place the asparagus in the frying pan and evenly coat the olive oil over the spears.
3.  Grill the asparagus for 5- 7 minutes by turning them over ever so often to evenly brown the sides.
4.  Lightly drizzle some more olive oil before serving.
