VIA Rail on Strike!

VIA Train
VIA Rail passengers will need to find alternative modes of transportation as rail service comes to a screeching halt.

The end of the work week approaches, eager VIA Rail passengers anticipating to get home to enjoy the weekend will now have to scramble because as of 1pm today the Via Rail Engineers are now on strike.

Contract negotiations this morning with VIA Rail officials and its 300+ rail engineers have broken down and as a result 2000 more Via employees are out of work.

At the heart of the dispute is the proposed implementation of VIA’s  new calendar scheduling  process where locomotive engineers are to be scheduled to work.  The Union claims that this new system creates too much uncertainty around workers and their job securiity.  Wage increases and benefits for these workers are also to be negotiated as well.

  1. Why is everyone in strike? Unions need to be dismantled. Unions strangle their employers.

    • Well, technically you’ll have to figure what the union chiefs motives are.

  2. Bad timing on behalf of the VIA workers and City officials.

Who strikes in a time of recession and who holds back money from their employees and then turns around to say they’re dumping $300 Million in renovations?

  3. Let them strike. Unions are awful.
