How to pick a Perfect Watermelon

Who hasn’t come across this dilemma while grocery shopping this summer?  You’re at the supermarket picking up your daily/weekly groceries for your lunches and dinners when you come across a sale on Watermelon.  You wander over to the gigantic box of melons but you can’t seem to decide which one to buy…you look around to see how the other clueless patrons are trying out their…

ill conceived unorthodox methods which are sometimes quite laughable.  One time I’ve seen someone almost talk to the melons while they were scratching at the skin, while others are playing bongos with the watermelons.  Are you serious?

You may be one of those nuts in the supermarket and your methods might work 1 out of every 7 times you try but who really knows for sure?   So I’ll let you guys in on secret conceived by real watermelon experts at  Enjoy.

How to choose a watermelon:

  1. Look for a firm watermelon that is free from bruises and dents.
  2. Pick it up and feel its weight. A really juicy watermelon will be heavy for its size.
  3. Turn your watermelon over to see if there is a creamy yellow spot on the underside. This will indicate that it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun, which is a very good thing if you’re a watermelon.
  4. Bring your perfect watermelon home and store it on the counter for up to 3 days.
  5. Pop it into the fridge for a cooling off time the day before you’re going to serve it.
