Cultura International Street Food Festival – 2010

Cultura 001

Ever think about what “street meat” would taste like from other countries?  Now you can enjoy Asian, Indian, Mexican, Afghan, and much more at Mel Lastman Square every Friday in July!

Mel Lastman Square will transform into an international market place showcasing exotic street food and sizzling tunes from around the world.

The International Street Food Festival will run each consecutive Friday evening in July (9th, 16th, 30th) from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. close to the Yonge Street entrance of the square.

Dates: July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 & August 6 2010
Hours: 5 – 10pm
Fee: FREE!

The inspiration for the inaugural International Street Food Festival is the ethnic diversity of our city. We sit amidst an international kitchen that allows us to sample foods from Korea, Mexico, and Afghanistan.

The festival will feature: Korean BBQ; fresh fruit shakes; mango salad, jerk chicken, Persian chicken kabobs, beef kabobs, vegetable sushi, grilled vegetable wraps, chicken and rice, Manto dumplings, authentic tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, and burritos, as well as organic fusion.

The vendors range from experienced restaurateurs to amateur chefs who seasoned their skills in their native countries. Each brings their own unique style to the Festival.

Local musicians, with international play lists, will be showcased at the Festival. To bring a variety of sounds, each evening different musicians will be showcased.

Hosting the Festival in Mel Lastman Square, the centre of Willowdale, will hopefully entice friends, families, and neighbours to come and enjoy a summer evening in the Square. Food always seems to be the right ingredient to generate a crowd. The farmers market, held in Mel Lastman Square on Thursday afternoons, is a good example of this.

It is important that the Festival be supported by the community. We are looking for Willowdale’s feedback to make the Festival better, bigger, and more diverse. Your insight will enable the Festival to become a permanent event in the Square.

Music, food, a little cooperation from the weather, and Willowdale’s support will make the Festival an event that must not be missed!
